One of THE highlights in late 2008 undoubtly was TOWNSHIP FUNK by DJ Mujava.
In a manner of speaking it came out of nowhere and got stuck in the ears of many within minutes (to be precise: in 5:49 min). I had read about Kwaito - the South-African answer to Baile Funk - before. But I had never really listened to it. Wiki says it "consists of decelerated House beats", Diplo calls it "a form of slowed-down Garage". That's all true, but it's more than just that. It's got the special African percussion and a deeeeeep bassline. That's why it was only a matter of time before some of the lading figures of UK Garage/Dupstep/Bassline snatched it to come up with their versions and an even deeeeeeeeeeeper bassline.
I'm giving you both: the original and a couple of rmxs to compare. All wicked!
